Parking: Exit 662 has a Texaco/Pacific Pride fuel stop with a small parking lot and exit 673 has a TA travel center north of the truck scale. There is a rest area south of exit 657 south of the Cottonwood weigh station. There are three truck stops- a Petro truck stop, Flying J truck stop and TA travel center- at exit 630 south of the scale.
Alternate Route Information
One driver states that this route is on a length restricted road- trucks over 65 ft are not allowed. The driver also says that the weigh station sign is before the exit, and requires that trucks obey the sign as an instruction to go to the weigh station.
Take exit 662 for Bowman Road. You will be exiting just before the PrePass and weigh in motion detectors. Turn right off the ramp. You’ll go 2.4 miles to the left turn onto Hooker Creek Road. When ou are on Bowman Road, you’ll cross over a low rail road tracks (nearly flat), then you’ll pass Amen Lane on the right and your next left is Hooker Creek. Turn left onto Hooker Creek. You’ll be on Hooker Creek Road for 7.1 miles until you come to the ramp for I 5 south- there is no warning that you’re coming up on the I 5 south ramp until you come around a curve and you’re there. This route has no marking indicating that trucks are not allowed. There is one pulloff area on Hooker Creek Road (about 3.3 miles after you turn onto it) that could possibly be used for portables. There is little or no truck traffic along this route and there are no services. You will cross two rail road crossings that are very flat- the second crossing (on Hooker Creek close to the junction with I5) has a slight rise but should not cause any hang ups for car haulers or double drop/low boy trailers.
